Törggelen - the right way

Buschenschank (wine taverns)

"Buschen" as a distinctive sign

An authentic custom that can be experienced

They are recognisable by a "Buschen" (bouquet of green twigs) hanging above the entrance and are located along the Eisack Valley Chestnut Trail and in the classic wine and chestnut-growing areas of South Tyrol around Bolzano, in the Unterland and Überetsch regions, as well as in the Etsch Valley, the Burggrafenamt and the Völs area. What they have in common: They celebrate a South Tyrolean custom in an original way - only in autumn and in those places where grapes and chestnuts grow. All participating Buschenschänke also meet the quality criteria of the "Red Rooster" brand.

The typical Törggelemenu

At the autumnal Törggelen, guests are served the best of rural cuisine made from many farm products and prepared with much love. Typical dishes are: sausage soup, "Kasnocken" or "Schlutzer" as starters and a mixed meat platter with 'Surfleisch' (pork), spare ribs, various sausages, dumplings and sauerkraut as the main course. To finish, there are roasted chestnuts and sweet "Krapfen" (doughnuts) with a delicious filling - and perhaps a glass of home-made distillates.

Törggelen as it used to be

The "real" Törggele season begins with an opening festival on the first Saturday in October. At the official start of "Törggelen am Ursprung", all participating Buschenschänke light the so-called "Keschtn (chestnut) fire". Along with roasted chestnuts, homemade wines and a range of farm products, the farmers also open their farms for guided tours, wine tastings and more from 6 pm onwards. Each Buschenschank offers an activity where the hosts tell all kinds of stories about house and farm.
