Holidays on a wine farm

Whether ‚Gewürztraminer‘, ‚Vernatsch‘ or ‚Lagrein‘ – whether sweet or dry, light or full-bodied: wine connoisseurs will be in their element on a typical South Tyrolean wine farm. Barrel upon barrel of wine lies maturing in the old cellars, witness to rural tradition and South Tyrolean hospitality. Take a dip into the world of wine. Watch the farmers during the grape harvest, wine-pressing or bottling. Talk shop with specialists or simply review the day over a glass of good home-produced wine. Is your mouth already watering?

The following criteria have to be observed in order for a farm to be classified as a ‚wine farm‘:
  • own wine cultivation with wine processing and own cellar
  • the wine can be tasted in well-kept, authentic surroundings
  • there are detailed wine descriptions available
  • you can taste and buy at least three different kinds of wine
  • guests can enjoy guided specialist wine-tasting with a tour of the cellar
  • a range of good glasses is available for tasting
  • the farm offers guided tours with general information over the wine industry in South Tyrol, including the various methods of vine cultivation and the different phases of the agricultural year
  • books and journals on wine are available for guests to browse through

The South Tyrolean Farmers‘ Union monitors the observation of these criteria. Besides taking a holiday on a wine farm, there are other ways to get to know the rural world of South Tyrol. Simply take a look at the nine other types of holiday on offer.
