South Tyrol being alpine and mediterrenean at the same time has a wide variety of different kinds of wine. Some wines are made at an altitude of 200 meters, others at 1.000 meters. The mountains keep off harsh North winds while the warmth comes in from the South. The terrain varies from Dolomite to vulcanic stone.
South Tyrol has about
5.000 hectars of vineyards where the typical
Vernatsch,
Lagrein or
Gewürztraminer are made. But winemakers are also proud of their
Cuvées of Cabernet,
Merlot or
Burgundy which they have been making for the last 100 years.
