Tscherms lies surrounded by vineyards and orchards in the middle of the Etsch river valley at a height of 290 metres above sea level. The rural village between Lana and Meran emanates a special calm, while the houses look like they are part of the landscape and form an idyllic whole with the surrounding fruit trees and vineyards. Turmoil and confusion are unknown words here, yet it is not cut off from the rest of the world: the spa town of Meran with its numerous cultural and shopping options is just five kilometres from Tscherms and the village itself has a lot to offer its guests.

The landmark of Tscherms perches on a moraine hill at the foot of Marling Berg: the castle of Schloss Lebenberg. The castle was built by the Lords of Marling in the 13th century and remained in their possession until 1426, when it passed to the Lord of Fuchs. The castle was repeatedly converted and extended in the years following that. It has belonged to a Dutch family since 1924, who still occupy part of this fully- furnished castle that is one of the largest in South Tyrol. It's worth setting aside enough time to do a tour of the French garden, the chapel, the medieval weapons collection and the knights' hall with its large wall fresco. The parish church dedicated to St. Sebastian and the little 17th-century church of St. Anna are also worth seeing. A Farm Holiday in Tscherms does not just mean getting to grips with noble brickwork and its history, but also being able to put together your own hiking and cycling programme.

Hiking and cycling
Tscherms is the perfect place for a quiet hiking holiday. Hikers can take their pick from paths on the valley slopes, circular walks, walks along 'Waal' irrigation channels and over mountain pastures up to Naturnser Alm pasture. The paths are easy and ideal for families – particularly 'Waalwege'. These 'Waale' are small, ancient irrigation channels built by farmers to lead water to dry slopes with paths running alongside them to allow maintenance work. Nowadays, these all-year-round paths are popular for walking along thanks to the varied landscape and their proximity to water. One of these is the Marlinger Waalweg, whose southern end is called the Tschermser Waalweg. This may be combined with a leisurely tour around Schloss Lebenberg. Other walking paths and cycle paths in nearby Meran 2000 area or on Vigiljoch pass may be easily reached from a holiday flat in Tscherms.

Visiting Kränzelhof

The medieval house of Kränzel in Gampengasse with its magical maze is particularly worth a trip and is open from March to November. There are seven exciting gardens with something catering for all tastes over 20,000 square metres: art exhibitions and installations, relaxing meditation in the maze, guided tours through the gardens and wine tours, tasting sessions and lots more. 'Miil' gourmet restaurant is housed in the former mill, where cereal was milled into flour centuries ago.
