You will find pure paradise here: gentle hills and vineyards stretching as far as the eye can see, wonderful old houses with tiled roofs, fortresses and castles watching over the landscape. The Überetsch, as the area between the Etsch river and the steep Mendel mountain is called, is perhaps the most picturesque corner of South Tyrol. It is here that the nobility of 500 years ago had their houses built by architects from Venice and Tuscany, giving rise to the so‚ Überetsch style‘, with its influences from the Italian renaissance. But enough of architecture – there are also excellent walks here in the Etsch valley and wine drinkers will be in their element along the Wine Road.
