A high altitude farm fulfils the following criteria:

• a classification of at least four flowers.
• breakfast with at least twelve different products.
• at least four of the farm's own products available to buy.
• quiet, secluded location at least 1,500 m above sea level.
• no busy hiking trails go directly past the farmstead.
• lots of farming activity with at least five cattle.
• the steepness must be visible and noticeable directly on the farm.
• a score of at least 75 on the mountain farming difficulty scale.
• farm tours, explaining the typical methods of working of everyday life on the farm from the past and present.
• the farm family has good knowledge of the nearby hiking area.
• hiking maps of surrounding areas available for guests to take.
• up-to-date information about the general weather conditions.
• furniture, doors and balconies are made of solid wood.
• curtains are made of natural materials.
• plastic, carpet and other synthetic materials are not used on the floors.
• the bedrooms have wooden floors.
• if guests arrive or depart by train or bus, they will be picked up or dropped off personally.
• specialist literature on the topics of South Tyrolean farms, customs in South Tyrol, hiking, mountains, and flora and fauna is available in German and Italian.
