Sunrise with the farmer

One of nature’s unforgettable spectacles

Sunrise in South Tyrol
If you want to witness daybreak from a South Tyrolean mountain peak you will have to get up early – but it’s definitely well worth it. On a lot of ‘Red Rooster’ farms the farmer doubles up as a guide and accompanies his guests on walks in the surrounding mountains in order to show them one of nature’s unforgettable spectacles.

Equipped with a headlamp or torch you will be out of the house at the ungodly hour of three o’clock in the morning. While it’s still pitch dark outside you will make your way to the top of the mountain with the farmer. All around you nature will be gradually waking up for the day and you will see the dew starting to form on the leaves of the woodland plants. The slowly illuminating sky will hint of the coming dawn and the first light of day will conjure up a red spot of colour over the heavens. These magical moments will take place against the picture-postcard backdrop of the South Tyrolean mountains. Finally, the first rays of sun will spread over the peaks, the sky will be filled with a fiery red until the sun bathes the countryside in a warm golden yellow.

Watching the sun rise from the top of a mountain is a wonderful natural sight and an experience never to be forgotten. After these impressive few moments you will set off back down the mountain to be immersed once again in daily life on the farm. A generous breakfast with home-made bread, freshly-laid eggs and smoked ham (‘speck’) will await you as fortification for the rest of the day. This is the time to reflect on the scene you have witnessed, while the children play around with the farm animals outside.
