Handcrafts have been playing an important role on
South Tyrol’s farms for hundreds of years and the art of carving and woodturning, felting and weaving has been practised with great skill down the generations. It was particularly during the winter months, when there was little work to do outside, that farm families used to spend long hours over
handcrafts in the warmth of the farm parlour or workshop.
Over the course of time this
old tradition has increasingly been neglected and, in order to create a higher profile for these nearly forgotten rural crafts, ‘Red Rooster’ has set about searching for farmers who are actively engaged in
handwork on the farm, yet are striking out in new directions at the same time.
