South Tyrolean farm bars

Picture the scene – you are sitting on a comfortable old wooden bench in front of a warm stove in an old ‚stube’ dating back hundreds of years, enjoying a good glass of red wine and a tasty light meal. Farm bars in South Tyrol are simple and in keeping with tradition, making them welcoming and popular places. The German name, ‚Buschenschank’ comes from the old tradition of hanging a bunch of leaves (‚Buschen’) up outside the door to let people know when the season’s new wine was ready to drink. In addition, home-made food from the farm’s own products was served. The best time for the ‚Buschenschank’ experience is in autumn, when the season’s new wine is served up along with roasted chestnuts in the name of the ‚Törggelen’ tradition.
