The following criteria have to be fulfilled in order for a farm to be classified as ‚family-friendly‘:
  • the farm must be far away from traffic
  • potential dangers for children and babies will have been removed
  • baby and child-friendly furnishings are available on request (cot, highchair, baby phone, potty, baby-changing table, bottle-warmer, baby bath….)
  • the farm must have a playground for children between 0-12 years old
  • clothes can be washed, dried and ironed
  • in the case of rented rooms: it must be possible to prepare babyfood at any time
  • children up to 3 years come free, from 4 to 10 years there are reductions
  • there must be a children’s playroom with books, games and toys for every age group. Balls, playdough, face-paints, paper, board games, children’s books and drawing books also have to be available
  • there must be a play corner in the dining room or living room, or nearby for babies and small children
  • animals must be tame (e.g. hens, cats, geese, donkeys, pigs…)

  • the farm has to be on a marked path or very close to one
  • bed and breakfast, half-board or holiday flats with breakfast are on offer
  • there is an airing room for walking boots and equipment

  • packed lunches can be provided on request containing at least two of the farm’s own products
  • the farms offer once-weekly guided walks

  • the farm is a member of an organic association and is monitored regularly
  • the farm has alternative, renewable energy sources (organic gas, solar energy, wood heating )
  • the guests have access to an organic garden
  • four different kinds of organic fruit and vegetables are on offer according to season and a further three processed products (jam, ‚speck‘…)

  • the farmhouse has been built in a style typical for the local area and features elements of historic style, such as historic vaults
  • the outer walls originate from the 19th century or earlier
  • possible new additional buildings or extensions are easily distinguishable from the historic old buildings and fit harmoniously into the whole
  • the historic buildings have been renovated, but not renewed
  • the floors are not carpeted or plastic-covered
  • the farm’s own fruit and vegetables or refined products are available all year round
  • the inhabitants of the farm place great importance on traditional products and recipes
  • a folder containing the history of the farm, describing old customs and sayings and everyday life on the farm – both today and in the past – is available to read

  • a well-kept tack room and saddlery is available for each horse
  • there are wash facilities as well as washing for riding equipment right by the stables
  • there is a cupboard for the riding gear
  • approved safety helmets are available
  • animal insurance and accident insurance guarantee required protection and offer safety
  • a vet’s certificate can vouch for the health of the horses
  • guests will be able to groom and look after the horses if they want
  • a qualified riding instructor is on hand to take guided hacks out
  • one family member on the farm can give instructions on how to handle horses
  • specialist literature and information on horseriding is available

  • The farm enjoys a quiet location, far from traffic
  • It offers at least 2 different health treatments with personal assistance and specialized staff. For example; ‘Kneipp’ baths (foot baths), hay baths, milk baths, massages, face packs, purification treatments, fasting, grape cures or relaxation exercises
  • There are relaxation rooms inside the farm and quiet areas outside
  • There are free-time activities, such as exercise bikes, fitness machines, dumb-bells, a tennis court, bike hire, horse-riding, swimming, a sauna, steam baths and sitting hay baths
  • There is a range of all-year-round fruit and vegetables grown on the farm or fruit and vegetable products, as well as alcohol-free drinks from the farm
  • There is a breakfast buffet with at least 10 different products and plenty of herbal teas, fruit or vegetable juices
  • Detailed information about these health offers and good health in general is available
  • All inner rooms in the farmhouse are non-smoking rooms

  • Parking areas on the flat, near the entrance to the farm
  • Gradient of paths max. 8%
  • No holes, grooves and ditches limiting freedom of movement
  • Wide corridors and doors, non-slip surfaces and furniture suitable for use by disabled people
  • Light switches, sockets and telephones within easy reach
  • Heating can be turned up to 2-3°C above room temperature
  • Sufficient room for manoeuvre alongside beds and suitable cooking facilities in holiday flats
  • Sanitary facilities suitable for use by disabled people

The following criteria have to be kept to in order for a farm to receive the ‚Holidays on High Altitude Mountain Farms’ seal of quality:
  • the farm is a working farm
  • the steepness of the terrain is evident and can be seen from the farm
  • the farm is at an altitude of at least 1,500m above sea level
  • the farm is in an isolated position
  • the furniture and doors are made of solid wood and the curtains are of natural fabric
  • the farm’s own products are available all year round and breakfast can be provided on request
  • the farm family has a good knowledge of walking routes in the local area
  • guests can be picked up from the station or from other public transport system stops on request
